About: A Facilitation 101 training designed for organizers, staff, and community members who want to strengthen their facilitation skills or learn the basics of leading effective meetings and group processes. The training will cover agenda setting, building a strong group container, understanding group dynamics including race and power, and working with facilitation teams and roles. Lunch and light snacks will be provided. The training is offered on a sliding scale, with suggested contributions of $100–$500 for organizations with professional development budgets, and low- or no-cost participation available for community groups without funds. Multiple participants from the same organization are welcome.

About: A guided workshop focused on energetic hygiene practices for grounding, protection, and personal well-being. Participants will explore techniques to clear and maintain healthy energetic boundaries while supporting emotional and spiritual balance. Event: Experimental Theater Workshops
Location: The Festival Center, Washington, DC
Hosted by: TELAS Colectiva Teatral
About: A high-commitment experimental theater intensive focused on theater training exercises, sociopolitical analysis of local contexts, and collective creation of a 15-minute theatrical sketch to be presented at spring community gatherings. Participants are expected to attend at least 13 of 15 workshop sessions. Performance and community workshop dates are May 23 and May 29 from 5:00 – 9:00 PM. Transportation is not provided. Registration closes February 23.

Event: Working Class Literature Festival

Hosted by: Bol Co-op with The Festival Center, Claudia Jones School of Political Education, Asian Labour Review, Long-Haul Magazine, and After the Storm
About: A two-day literature festival exploring working class life, culture, and solidarity through poetry, fiction, music, and film. Inspired by international working class literature festivals, the event brings together writers, organizers, and community members to reflect on labor struggles, resilience, and the possibilities for transnational working-class solidarity. Programming will include poetry readings, panel discussions with authors and organizers, labor organization tabling, live music performances, and a film screening. The festival aims to make literature accessible to working people while highlighting both the challenges and joys of working-class life.

About: A hybrid meeting of Free DC’s Congress Working Group focused on developing priorities and strategies for advocacy to Congress around DC Home Rule and related issues. Participants may attend in person or virtually. Following the meeting, attendees are invited to stay for a brief social gathering to mark the anniversary of the passage of the DC Local Funds Act. Attendance is limited to those who have previously completed a Free DC Campaign Orientation.

About: A public action bringing together DC parents, students, educators, and community leaders to advocate for policies that protect DC children and families. Participants will gather at the Senate during recess to highlight how congressional decisions affect DC schools, healthcare, safety, and community stability. Two participation shifts are available (10 AM–12 PM and 12 PM–2 PM). Youth Know Your Rights trainings will also be offered at the nearby United Methodist Building, where participants can check in for community service hours.

About: A community candidate forum and straw poll as part of Free DC’s endorsement process for upcoming DC elections. Participants will hear from candidates, learn about their positions related to Home Rule and federal issues, and take part in a participatory endorsement process. Food, childcare, ASL interpretation, and Spanish translation will be provided. Eligible DC residents who have completed Campaign Orientation are encouraged to participate in the community voting process following the forum.

Event: Local Business Canvassing at Southwest Waterfront

About: A canvassing action inviting participants to engage local businesses in the Southwest Waterfront area about supporting DC Home Rule and opposing federal interference in the city. Volunteers will receive materials, a brief training, and be paired with a partner before heading out to canvass. Attending a Free DC Orientation is encouraged but not required.

Hosted by: Community Neighbors (Volunteer-Led Action)About: A weekly peaceful protest bringing neighbors together to call for changes in immigration enforcement and policing policies in DC. Participants gather to raise awareness around issues including federal presence in the city, treatment of youth in detention, collaboration between agencies, and voting rights for DC residents. Attendees are encouraged to bring signs, drums, horns, and other noisemakers to make their voices heard.

About: Local activists with Boycott Target DMV hold weekly Saturday pickets outside the 14th Street Target to protest corporate exploitation and community harm. About: Join Free DC for a special combined training offering of Campaign Orientation and Non-Cooperation Theory + Practice. Orientation introduces the current attacks facing DC, the campaign’s strategy to defeat them, and the organizing structures behind the work. The Non-Cooperation training is an advanced half-day intensive on the skills involved in effective non-cooperation, exploring how these tactics work at both individual and mass levels and how they have been used by other movements. Participants may attend one or both sessions depending on their needs; attendance at a campaign orientation is required before joining the non-cooperation training. Location details will be shared after registration.

The Festival Center will be closed to the public on Tuesday, February 11th, and Wednesday, February 12th due to inclement weather. We will resume regular operations on Thursday, February 13th.
