The Festival Center is pleased to announce the appointment of AnaYelsi Velasco-Sanchez as its new Board President. AnaYelsi, an IndoLatinx mujerista and public educator originally from Venezuela, is widely recognized for her Interlocking Justice methodology—a holistic approach that empowers individuals and communities in their pursuit of justice and liberation. Through her business, AVS Consulting, and as the founder of the Interlocking Justice Institute, AnaYelsi collaborates with a range of clients to build sustainable and accessible justice movements nationwide.
Reflecting on her new role, AnaYelsi shared, “My day job takes me all over the country and that can make it hard to be connected to what’s happening in my own backyard. For years now, The Festival Center has given me a way to be involved in the justice and liberation work that is being done right here in Washington, DC. I’m honored to have an opportunity, as board chair, to give back a little of what The Festival Center has given me.”
Bill Mefford, Executive Director of the Festival Center, expressed his excitement about AnaYelsi’s leadership: “AnaYelsi brings a powerful combination of vision, commitment, and a deep understanding of justice work to our board. We’re thrilled to have her as our new Board president, guiding the Festival Center into an era of even greater community impact and transformative change.”
In addition to AnaYelsi’s appointment, the Festival Center is proud to welcome new executive board members: Gail Arnall as Secretary and Lauren Goodyear as Vice-President. David Garcia will continue his role as Treasurer, providing continuity and support to our board’s vital work.
The Festival Center remains dedicated to fostering inclusive leadership and supporting movements for justice, faith, and community in Washington, DC and beyond. For more information about our board members, visit www.festivalcenter.org/board .
